Kickn' it Old School

While watching your favorite show, you may have caught those Rhapsody commercials… you know the one where the nerdy white guys puts on his television and the artist of the song he listening to is actually in the room performing. Well there was one version of the commercial with Sara Bareilles who has received great success with her single “Love Song.” The other version has The Cool Kids, who I believe will blow up to the mainstream very soon. This hip hop duo consists of Mikey Rocks and Chuck Inglish who both hail from Chicago. Now-a-days hip hop music is very boring and plain hearing songs about how much money these rappers and which corny dance they can come up with next. The Cool Kids are a new scent in this garbage dump of hip hop music and culture. Mikey Rocks and Chuck Inglish are taking it back to the 80’s when the music was about having fun. Not only does their music have simple 1980’s beats and lyrics, but their appearance is thrown back as well by wearing big glasses, dookie chains, and flipped billed caps.
The group’s music has been released from their MySpace page primarily before they signed an independent record deal with Chocolate Industries and have released their single about BMX bikes “Black Mags” which is the song in the Rhapsody commercial and is receiving positive reviews. The group is currently on tour with M.I.A and has a single featured in the video game NBA: Live 08 and future looks brighter with each day. Rolling Stone magazine also, featured The Cool Kids in their top ten artists to watch in 2008.
To quote Jay-Z, “People wanna bring the 80’s back, that’s okay, that’s where they made me at.” I have to agree, the 80’s I heard were fun times and it would be good to bring those days back and The Cool Kids are leading the movement. These unique guys I feel will become very successful and when they do don’t forget where you heard it from
